The responsibility of a Histology Technician is to prepare and process tissue samples for pathologists to exam and interpret. In this fast-paced laboratory, the technician must be familiar with basic Histology and be able to conform to and follow all procedures, policies and quality control practices as directed. Environmental hazards such as formalin, communicable disease, fresh human tissue, etc. are present in the workplace. The Histology Technician must adhere to strict HIPAA standards as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

Histology Technician I may perform any of the following duties or groups of duties:
Embed tissue specimens into paraffin wax blocks
Cut sections of anatomic tissues for microscopic examination
Stain tissue specimens with dyes or other chemicals
Trouble shoot stainer issues
Other duties as assigned
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
Must have excellent hand-eye coordination
Must be detail oriented
Must be able to prioritize job tasks and meet deadlines
HT or HTL(ASCP) eligible within 1 year of hire, required
Familiarity with basic laboratory chemistry, preferred
1+ year of laboratory experience preferred
2+ years of cutting and embedding preferred
Lifting up to 20 lbs
