Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is one of the nation’s pre-eminent research and academic medical centers and is a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. The Chief Pharmacy Officer provides leadership and direction for the strategic, operational, clinical, research, financial and administrative functions associated with pharmacy services. This includes over 650 inpatient beds, Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, a large cancer center, BMT and Solid Organ Transplant Programs, academic research and several ambulatory clinics and urgent cares throughout the Boston area. The department has approximately 200 FTEs and an annual pharmacy budget exceeding $150 million.
This position works collaboratively with hospital senior leadership to strategically develop service line opportunities, develop and manage new pharmacy business enterprises, and oversee the development and operation of entire pharmacy services. The department has 2 main central pharmacies (East & West Campus), 2 research pharmacies, 1 large oncology hospital outpatient infusion pharmacy and 1 offsite oncology outpatient infusion pharmacy, 1 specialty pharmacy and 1 outpatient retail pharmacy opening in April 2018. The department also has an ASHP accredited residency program with 4 PGY1 residents and 3 PGY2 residents in critical care, ID and solid organ transplant.
The Chief Pharmacy Officer reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer. The position has pharmacy senior level direct reports which include the Director, Pharmacy Operations, Director, Clinical Pharmacy Programs, Director, Ambulatory Pharmacy Operations, and Assistant Pharmacy Director of Safety, Quality & Regulatory Affairs.
