To provide leadership and oversight of the overall patient care process, assuring high performing staff provides the highest service and quality care to patients within professional nursing care standards. EDUCATION FOCUS: Coordinates the overall management of education and participates in identification of educational needs for the Neonatal staff.
Establishes with staff, priorities of care and ongoing assessment of education needs of the neonatal nursing unit.
Plans, develops, organizes and evaluates the education programs
Assists staff through use of the nursing process, to plan, intervene and evaluate the care on the neonatal unit
Assists staff in problem solving related to the care of patients, equipment and procedures.
Maintains up to date resource materials; journals, texts, articles, etc. for use by nursing staff.
Writes new policy and procedures reflecting current nursing research, trends and practices whenever possible.
Monitors utilization of resources and intervenes when over utilization is identified
Coordinates standards of patient care, policies and procedures for improvement
Presents regular inservices, programs, and/or courses to the nursing staff and ancillary personnel.
Facilitates and participates in the educational orientation program for new employees.
Facilitates new program development and/or technology updates.

QUALITY OF CARE FOCUS: The manager is responsible for the quality of care and for meeting quality targets within her area of responsibility (assigned cost centers).
Leads multidisciplinary teams in the areas of data supported opportunities to improve unit or system outcomes; utilizes assigned outcomes management staff in assistance with data collection, aggregation, and analysis.
Assesses, plans, implements, and systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and the delineation of professional and nonprofessional role enhancements. Holds staff accountable to performing within standards of care.
Participates in the development, implementation, maintenance, and systematic evaluation of systems and processes that support the organizational plan for continuous quality and performance improvement.
Assures that the care provided by the clinicians within their areas of responsibility is consistent with standards of care, national patient safety goals, core measures, regulating bodies and other quality initiatives undertaken by the unit(s) or the hospital.
Collaborates with Director in preparing, implementing, and monitoring progress of annual operating and capital budgets for assigned units. Expenses are within 5% of budget allocation after allowing for variables.
Fosters a culture within Methodist that promotes prevention, detection, and resolution of conduct that does not conform to established standards, ethical and business policies.

4.INTERDISCIPLINARY FOCUS: Leads staff and physicians in interdisciplinary processes to strengthen relationships, improve communication and enhance team approach to patient care and patient satisfaction.
Solicits physician input for improving care provided to patients. Encourages physician involvement in performance improvement activities as appropriate.
Investigates physician concerns regarding patient care issues and provides feedback. Keeps Director informed of status.
Role models and instructs nursing and other professional staff on effective collaboration with physicians
Initiates chain of command when indicated
Leads multidisciplinary team in identifying opportunities for improvement in patient satisfaction through the gathering and interpretation of patient feedback
Assures the culture on the unit focuses on patient satisfaction as shown by improved scores on target data, zero tolerance practices

5. Develops and promotes teamwork among staff. Assists team in developing intra and inter-departmental work group cohesion.
Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) required
MSN- Clinical Nurse Specialist with NICU training or NNP preferred
3-5 years’ experience in Neonatal Intensive Care nursing and documented demonstration of strong clinical and interpersonal skills required
Demonstrated ability for problem solving, decision making and establishing an effective rapport with staff, patients and physicians also required
License and Certification
Registered Nurse in the state of Illinois
Current CPR certification
NRP within 3 months of hire
