The Divisional Director of Professional Excellence is a leadership position that is responsible for oversight and coordination of professional development throughout the health system.
The Divisional Director will lead the planning and development of Education programs, Nursing Quality, Magnet Program, and implementation of the Shared Governance Model. The Divisional Director of Professional Excellence is responsible for supporting the system's talent management program for leaders by assessing, developing, coordinating and presenting curriculum; both formal and informal presentations.
The Divisional Director of Professional Excellence will serve as the Magnet Program Coordinator and lead designated Magnet initiatives.
Professional improvement initiatives will consist of the following:
Excellence in quality of clinical nursing education.
Aligning education initiatives with the nursing vision and system strategic plans.
Promote the development of Professional Nursing Practice
Effective delivery of the Shared Governance Model to include improved Nursing Quality reporting and outcomes.
Implementation and documentation of Magnet initiatives.
Coordinate and develop leadership programs to promote clinical excellence in leadership
Incorporate the effective use of evidence-based practice and clinical guidelines to promote professional growth across the system
Deliver operational efficient training modalities to encourage compliance
Align operational and service efficiency development activities
The Divisional Director of Professional Excellence will report to the Chief Nursing Officer. The Divisional Director will work with all areas of the organization to help forecast needs, develop curriculum and deliver education using the most effective methods for development.
The following principle accountabilities are the essential functions of this position. Successful job applicants will be able to perform these essential functions.
1.) Redefine Education Excellence in Clinical Practice: Assess, Plan, Implement and Evaluate ongoing goals for increased professional excellence in nursing.
2.) Leadership Development -- Support the ongoing development of nursing leadership teams by assisting senior leadership with individual development plans.
3.) Program Development -- Provide oversight to the Education department in the development of appropriate EBP curriculum and educational activities.
4.) Adult Learning- must possess good communication skills; speaking, listening, presenting and writing as well as the ability to apply principles of adult learning when executing or facilitating the planned education.
5.) Clinical Quality- Provide leadership and oversight for nursing quality and coordination of activities to promote clinical excellence throughout patient care services. Link quality education programs to clinical service excellence to improve positive patient outcomes.
6.) Professional Excellence in National Nursing Practices- Champion and lead the professional clinical activities related to achieving and maintaining national best practices, ie. Pathway to Excellence, Magnet Journey, etc.
7.) Shared Governance-Create an effective shared governance foundation that is engaging and promotes growth among nursing staff and leadership.
8.) Integrate successfully into the organizational leadership team. Develop collaborative relationships with leadership across the system.
Minimum Education Required:
MSN required but will consider other appropriate advanced degree preparation.
Direct experience with leading Magnet Program accreditation or in-depth knowledge of model components.
At least five years experience as a nursing leader, preferably in an Integrated Delivery System with acute and ambulatory sites.
At least three to five years of experience in Professional Clinical Education with leadership knowledge in implementing a Shared Governance model.
Competent in organizational gap analysis.
Reputation as an excellent communicator and change agent with the ability to promote excellence in patient care.
Solid experience in collaborating and leading developmental projects with clinical leadership.
Experience with development in organizations with a service line model
Education knowledge and participation in the planning and utilization of an Electronic Medical Record.
Knowledge of regulatory training requirements, and standards of care for hospitals and clinics.
