This strategic leadership position reports directly to the Dean or dean’s designate in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis, while maintaining close collaboration with leadership in UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR). This position supervises 15-20 state-level staff and indirectly provides guidance and interacts with approximately 120 county-based educators.
Responsibilities include to direct, manage, and coordinate the UC CalFresh/SNAP-Ed nutrition education program at the state level to achieve the state level goals and objectives, while assuring compliance with Federal and State guidelines and augmenting the impact of ANR Nutrition, Family, and Consumer Science (NFCS) Programs.
MS or MPH degree, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
Proven track record of managing community-serving programs in a fast-paced and complex environment.
Demonstrated ability to create long-term vision and strategic planning to determine areas of improvement and program success.
Experience providing sound recommendations, continually examining systems and developing or revising to accommodate change requirements.
Supervisory experience to effectively recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, resolve problems/conflicts, assign and prioritize workload; establish performance standards; evaluate performance and take corrective action; facilitate collaboration, and recognize and reward staff contributions.
Organizational skills to manage assignments and work under a great deal of oversight and scrutiny; to respond to Federal guidance and funding changes and to maintain composure under heavy workload, frequent interruptions and opposing demands; to establish goals, workload priorities, and to follow through to successful completion.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of business management to effectively and ethically manage a complex statewide program.
Knowledge of and experience implementing and applying federal/state/university level laws, regulations, and policies governing business and accounting activities, health and safety issues, confidentiality of records and information, and technology.
Strong financial planning and budget analysis skills.
Interpersonal and intercultural communication skills to effectively communicate with individuals at all organizational levels, across organizations, and from diverse cultures.
Advanced presentation and public speaking skills.
Prior experience working as a registered Dietitian, professional nutritionist or as a community education specialist.
PhD in related field, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
