Founded in 2015, the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) launched the Foundation for the Public’s Health (Foundation). The purpose of the Foundation is to mobilize dollars and partnerships to support NACCHO and the 2,800 local health departments who provide critical public health services to communities across the nation. POSITION SUMMARY: The Foundation has a challenging opportunity for an Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. The selected candidate will help build from the ground up a corporate and foundation relations program. Working closely with the Foundation President, the Assistant Director will provide fundraising services for the Foundation, NACCHO, and local health departments. The Assistant Director will assist in key areas of corporate and foundation relations and serve as a liaison between the Foundation, NACCHO, and local health departments. The ideal candidate acts with discretion and independent judgement in cultivating and building relationships with people and organizations from a wide variety of socioeconomic and political cultures. The Assistant Director is an excellent researcher, writer, and editor with a talent at transforming technical public health information into understandable and compelling narrative for a lay audience. The Assistant Director presents publicly and manages the funding process from beginning to end. The ideal candidate is able to navigate organizational bureaucracies and easily deciphers complex proposal and reporting requirements. While this is a supervised position, it does require a high level of initiative, personal organizational skills, and the ability to make decisions and to follow through on those decisions.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES: • Persuasively communicate the Foundation’s/NACCHO’s/LHD’s mission and programs to potential funders; • Develop and write proposals to foundations and corporations; • Establish, cultivate and steward personal relationships with foundation and corporate staff; • Create and maintain a proposal calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports; • Conduct ongoing prospect research; • Create and maintain all prospect/funder information in the Foundation’s grant tracking system; • Work with NACCHO Finance to ensure accurate project budgets and timelines; • Work with NACCHO and LHD program staff to establish funding priorities and opportunities; • Work with NACCHO and LHD program staff to ensure timely reports, stories and other updates; • Work with the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and NACCHO’s Board of Director’s to identify foundation and corporate funding opportunities • Plan and manage site visits for funders; • Provide writing support for board prospects, major donor prospects and individual supporters.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE /SKILLS: • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant professional field with a minimum of 3-5 years relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in Public Health or a relevant field preferred. • Excellent writing and editing skills along with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. • Must be a producer, i.e. 3-4 full proposals per month; • Ability to conduct research and to capture that research in a manageable form; • The ability and interest to work with multiple stakeholders; • A strong desire to learn the art and science of proposal writing; • A willingness to fail and then try again; • An intense need to create something that reflects your service and passion; • A commitment to being accountable, transparent, and honest with what you say, write, and do; • A desire to be amazing;
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Exempt, TERM: This position is considered a term position made possible through grant funding, some or all of which is scheduled to end July 31, 2016. While NACCHO will make every effort to secure continued funding, this position may be eliminated on July 31, 2016.
