The Division of Medicine at the VA Healthcare System, Salisbury NC is seeking a physician leader for Assistant Chief of Medicine. The incumbentis preferablyboard certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine. The position is a full-time clinician-administrator track with protected time for administrative activities.
The Medicine Division at the Salisbury VA Healthcare System provides complex inpatient and outpatient services with dedicated administrative support staff and operational space. The incumbent will assist the Chief of medicine with oversight of medicine specialty operations at three clinical sites (Kernersville VA Healthcare Center, Salisbury VA Medical Center and the Charlotte VA Healthcare Center), and will be assisted by respective section chiefs/physician program managers for medical specialties who will function as first line supervisors for the respective sites.
The Assistant Chief will be responsible for specific elements of administrative oversight assigned by the Chief of medicine to include management of the quality assurance programs such as OPPE and FPPE, process improvement projects and medicine educational programs. In addition to provision of clinical care in his/her respective specialty, other responsibilities will include supervision of section chiefs/program managers, midlevel providers, and matrix management of nursing and technical staff in the absence of the chief of medicine.
The Assistant Chief will also collaborate with the department of education and office of academic affiliation to assist with trainee education from Wake Forest University and other affiliates. The medicine division is highly focused on outcomes and also strongly encourages research activity. An academic track record with evidence of publications and the ability to take advantage of the outstanding opportunities for collaboration in clinical, translational and health services research at the Salisbury VA Healthcare System and Wake Forest University is desirable.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The candidate should possess clinical and administrative experience to provide oversight for a wide variety of Mental Health programs.
The candidate should be interested in promoting performance optimization in the area of mental health services.
Candidate must have supervisory and management experience in the delivery of psychiatric care within a department.
Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level. Teaching of medical students, residents and fellows in Psychiatry requires a faculty appointment.
