The Cerro Gordo County Board of Health is seeking applicants for Health Director of the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health. The health department employs 48 staff, operates a $5.3 M budget, and consists of six divisions that provide program services and support in the areas of chronic disease prevention & health promotion, environmental health, acute infectious disease, epidemiology & preparedness, family & community health, organizational development & research, and administration & finance.
The department’s mission is to optimize the health of all people in Cerro Gordo County. The department is accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).
The health department is located in Mason City, Iowa, and is responsible for a population of 44,151. The county is conveniently located 120 miles north of Des Moines and 135 south of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Cerro Gordo County serves as a regional hub to a very diverse employment base covering multiple sectors of the economy including manufacturing, health, education, retail, financial services, and technology.
The county is home to Meredith Willson and his famous musical The Music Man, the legendary Surf Ballroom, Prairie School architecture, and walking/biking trail systems.
The Public Health Director is responsible for: •Planning, developing, coordinating, directing, evaluating, and managing the public health programs, services and staff. •Assuring the successful achievement of the department’s mission, vision, health improvement plan, and strategic direction. •Implementing Board of Health directives. •Serving as the Board of Health liaison to the Board of Supervisors, local officials, community leaders, health care providers, faith-based groups, and other state, regional, and local agencies. •Determining the feasibility and implication of policies, programs, and services. •Assessing the structure, functions, and authorization of governmental public health programs, and organizations. •Determine the fiscal feasibility and implications of policies, programs, and services.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related heath field, ten years of professional experience with five years of management experience and knowledge of public health preparedness; or a Master’s degree in a related health field, five years of professional experience with three years of management experience and knowledge of public health preparedness.
Additional Salary Information: Salary range is $95,000 to $121,000 dependent on education, skills, and experience.
