Vanderbilt University Medical Center Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for an Executive Director, Project Management Office (PMO). The Executive Director, Program Management Office (PMO) will report directly to the VUMC IT Chief Information Officer (CIO) and oversee a team comprised of Customer Relationship Managers, Business Analysts, and Project Managers. These three teams represent the end-to-end process of internal customer engagement and governance; project initiation and intake; financial, business and systems analysis; and project execution and delivery. The Executive Director, PMO will help VUMC stay abreast of trends and practices that will establish the PMO as a “Best in Class” operation ensuring that VUMC’s complex program portfolio is executed in a way that will facilitate and catapult the continued growth of the organization. In VUMC IT, the Executive Director, PMO holds leadership and management responsibilities in the executive leadership team. This role is responsible for deploying effective methods and practices around provisioning IT into the business, improving the overall IT program and project management maturity across the organization, and tracking and reporting conformance to plans and expectations of IT-oriented initiatives. As a facilitator of the VUMC governance function, the Executive Director, PMO is responsible for supporting and enabling the organization’s projects, programs, and structured work efforts. The Executive Director, PMO ensures that the work of the PMO is aligned to the strategy of the organization and delivers the expected value established in rigorous Return on Investment (ROI) and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis. As the primary communication source for the PMO to executive leaders, the Executive Director, PMO will manage the entire administrative governance process across VUMC IT, including facilitating all established governance meetings, and escalating requested programs and projects for approval by executive leadership. The Executive Director, PMO will ensure that risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and recommendations are clearly articulated to executive business owners. VUMC Information Technology (VUMC IT) is part of an overall IT structure that provides core infrastructure and hosting services for VUMC as well as support enterprise applications and administrative products. VUMC IT services include: Data Center Management, Hosting Services, Cloud Services, Network and Voice Services, End User Services, Collaboration, Administrative Application Development, Business Intelligence, and IT Purchasing and Contracts. Position Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and 10 years of experience (required) • Ten or more years of diverse experience in a combination of strategy, business, operations, and IT (preferably in the healthcare industry) • Ten years of leadership responsibilities with demonstrated experience in leading, directly and indirectly, large teams • Experience with one or more project management methodologies (ex. PMP, PMI PMBOK, PRINCE2 and agile); business analysis methodologies (ex. IIBA); and customer relationship management methodologies (ex. Evolve PMO processes, tools, metrics, and policies ensuring they drive productivity, quality and business success • Create and maintain cross-departmental relationships to enable leadership success. Build an effective communication framework across the VUMC organization that supports successful project & program delivery. Deliver management and executive level presentations that provide insight into the portfolio management and drive decision-making • Facilitate the VUMC IT governance process across the organization with the ability to bring together multiple stakeholders and drive prioritization decisions of shared resources • Lead the identification and development of PMO roles, team design, and recruitment. Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to PMO team staff. Regularly review and evaluate opportunities to improve the customer relationship management, business analysis, and project management best practices to achieve higher maturity in PPM • Actively work in conjunction with Business Operations team to advise in vendor management, including preparing standards of work and requirements specifications; estimating product and service costs based on resources, scope and timeline; and evaluating and selecting vendors based on requirements • Embody a distinctive blend of business, IT, financial, and communication skills.
