Provides speech-language pathology patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caregiver education, communication and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate within the guidelines designated by the department and the Delaware Valley policies and procedures. Maintains core competencies and any additional competencies determined to be necessary by the management team to ensure patient care needs are met. The Speech-Language Pathology Float associate is required to stay in the position for at least 12 months before being eligible to transfer to another position within Nemours. Position Responsibilities - Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics, adolescents, and adults;
- Able to provide therapy services in accordance with discipline specific scope of practice to a variety of patient types with recognition of his/her own limitations while seeking appropriate mentorship as needed.
- Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3, Joint Commission, and CARF standards.
- Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member as appropriate.
- Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications and transitional therapy program prior to discharge from therapy.
- Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
- Completes all mandatory training which may include, but not limited to safety, infection control, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, CPR and program specific respiratory training.
- Participates in weekend/holiday coverage rotation, including checking the code blue cart per guideline #7980.GL.24.
- Team Work: Participates in conflict identification and resolution. Works cooperatively on multidisciplinary, single discipline, program specific and specialty teams. Assists in maintenance of department space and equipment
Position requirements - Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or its equivalent from an ASHA-accredited university and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP); all clinicians must be eligible for DE license
- Delaware/New Jersey/Pennsylvania State license (permanent or temporary; as appropriate for location(s)to practice Speech Language Pathology as appropriate.
- All staff must maintain active DE licensure regardless of assignment, program or location.
- BLS certification Basic Life Support (within 6 months of date of hire) and must be maintained for duration of employment.
- Member of professional specialty organizations (APTA, AOTA, ASHA) preferred
- Minimum of 3 months experience required; clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatrics is preferred.
- Experience with physically and/or mentally challenged populations preferred
