The purpose of this job is to serve our Members, Customers and Co-workers.
This position is responsible for managing the strategic planning process. The role is key in developing, overseeing and helping to implement the strategic initiatives of the organization. The incumbent will report directly to the president/CEO and will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and directors to monitor progress and correct course when necessary.
Strategic Initiatives and Planning
Works directly with the president/CEO to initiate, organize and coordinate the annual strategic planning process including board level discussions. Identifies and works with external consultants to execute the plan in consultation with the SLT.
Develops, oversees and advises on the strategic plan development. Directs the preparation of background and briefing materials. Performs final review of strategic materials and presentations. Organizes special projects, events and meetings sponsored by the president/CEO. Coordinates key messages to stakeholders.
Serves as key liaison to the senior leadership team, collaborates with senior management to build and define a solid leadership foundation for ACHE’s strategic priorities.
Serves as liaison with others on behalf of the president/CEO. Represents president/CEO at designated meetings and functions.
Provides ongoing strategic counsel to serve key audiences the organization should be targeting for opportunities to convey ACHE’s message.
Develops timelines, measures and milestones to ensure the successful execution of the strategic plan initiatives.
Works with project owners and managers to develop detailed plans to achieve desired deliverables/outcomes, needed resources and measures of success.
Monitors measurement outcomes for the strategic plan and initiatives. Works with SLT to ensure the success of the plan including identifying improvement plans for gaps in performance of desired outcomes.
Provides leadership, guidance and coordination to ensure initiatives are launched and successfully executed in line with the strategic vision set forth by the Board of Governors, CEO and other senior leaders.
Ensures leadership team is updated with plans and developments affecting strategy and operations.
Participates on internal committees as assigned.
Facilitates communication between senior management and other staff by participating in divisional meetings and utilizing other channels as appropriate.
Serves as the staff liaison to the Board of Governors, the Council of Regents, and selected committees and task forces.
Professional and managerial experience in healthcare, association management, and/or not-for-profit environment strongly preferred.
Minimum of five years professional experience in strategic or enterprise planning.
Experience with and strong understanding of business functions including budget/finance and Human Resources.
LEAN Certification and/or certification in project management, change management or strategic planning. Understanding of Baldrige framework, a plus.
Experience presenting to a board and contributing at the senior management level.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must have strong team orientation.

Understanding of the executive role and responsibilities within a membership association.
