This position manages system-wide payroll activities, including time entry and production to ensure accurate processing and payment for all employees and physicians. Manages day to day operations, including customer service support and issue resolution, as they relate to payroll processes, technical issues and regulatory pronouncements. This position may also be responsible for managing the completion and submission of employment tax and other filings for the organization. Collaborates with other centralized functions to design, develop and implement effective and efficient system-wide payroll guidelines, policies and practices.
Hires, trains, conducts performance evaluations, and supervises the workflow for designated staff. This includes initiating promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions and establishing priorities, workloads, controls and work procedures, as well as determining resource needs. Ensures work is accurate and performed in a timely and accurate fashion.
Manages daily payroll operations in accordance with company policies and standards, as well as federal, state and local regulations. This position also plays a key role in developing, implementing and monitoring of departmental metrics, goals and objectives to support payroll operations.
May manage the accurate and timely completion and submission of employment tax and other filings, as well as other regulatory reporting needs, for the company. This includes supervising and coordinating the review, analysis and reconciliation of employment tax withholdings and deposits. These efforts include, but are not limited to, federal, state and local submissions.
Leads a team in proactively interfacing with customers and leadership to ensure timely and accurate pay for employees and quick issue resolution.
Provides training and education on department software, policy and practice guidelines to all levels within the organization. Ensures accurate documentation of payroll practices and procedures and staff and customer awareness of new or changed policies or procedures. Provides guidance to staff on technical matters relating to payroll programs, data and regulatory matters.
Provides expertise and support to system implementations, projects and committees. Participates and/or leads projects with a system-wide scope including participating in the development and implementation of processes, procedures, and programs to increase the payroll operation efficiency and effectiveness.
Conducts and reviews audits to ensure accuracy, data integrity and adherence to regulatory mandates. Leads team efforts in timely and accurate research, analysis, and problem resolution. This includes partnering with Finance to ensure accurate general ledger postings and reconciliations.
Must possess a strong knowledge of payroll and accounting as normally demonstrated through the completion of a bachelors degree in accounting business or field.
Must demonstrate five years of progressively responsible experience performing and/or managing payroll operations. This includes advanced knowledge working with payroll and time and attendance systems and spreadsheets. Must possess strong math and technical skills to work with multiple systems and data sources, and support company payroll activities. A strong knowledge of databases and structured query languages also required. Must possess solid oral and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively coordinate problem resolution using critical thinking skills and appropriate resources. Must be able to work independently and be able to maintain highly confidential data.
Previous healthcare payroll experience strongly preferred. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation strongly preferred. Prior experience working with Kronos, Lawson and MHC applications preferred.
