The EMS District Chief is an essential leadership position accountable for the oversight and direction of all on duty (18-30) EMS field staff and actively engaged York County based public safety personnel (18 Fire departments, 7 Police departments & 3 Rescue Squads, 911 and EMA) involved in the support or delivery of emergency medical care. It is the expectation that the EMS District Chief will exemplify the highest professional standards and continuously foster an enriching, supportive and dynamic team environment. The EMS District Chief directs field operations and coordinates emergency medical personnel and resources to assure provision of high performance emergency medical services throughout York County.The EMS District Chief administers basic and advanced life support procedures to patients at the accident or illness scene, and if needed, may become active in transporting to medical facilities.The EMS District Chief manages and coordinates interagency control at the scene of a major disaster and coordinates actions of all EMS staff and first responders. Additionally the EMS District Chief maintains daily time keeping (kronos), assists with scheduling, electronic patient care reporting (ePCR), monitors and maintains resource allocation, performs performance evaluations, employee recognition and accountability, internal /external conflict resolution, and administrative, technical and supervisory duties.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Department Knowledge and Experience
ï¿½At least Five years full time experience as a 911 EMS provider with at least 2 years of experience with Piedmont Emergency Medical Services as a Senior Paramedic - FTO preferred.
ï¿½Successful completion of the Piedmont Medical Center Critical Care Paramedic initial and on-going training and competency program.
ï¿½Successful completion of the Piedmont Medical Center Community Paramedic initial and on-going training/competency program.
ï¿½General Prerequisite Knowledge.
oThe organizational structure of the EMS department; geographical configuration and characteristics of the ambulance deployment plans and the medical components therein; emergency operations, incident management systems, and safety; basic understanding of information management and recordkeeping; current trends, technologies, and socioeconomic factors that impact the emergency medical service; cultural diversity; methods used by supervisors to obtain cooperation within a group of subordinates; the rights of management and employees; agreements in force between the organization and employees; ethical practices, including a professional code of ethics; basic understanding of methods, procedures and practices of internal and external quality management system, and policies and procedures regarding the operation of the department as they involve supervisors and employees.
ï¿½General Prerequisite Skills.
oThe ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing utilizing technology provided by Piedmont Emergency Medical Services; write reports, letters, and memos utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs; and effectively operate at all incident management levels in the incident management system utilized by Piedmont Emergency Medical Services and York County
ï¿½High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
ï¿½Bachelorï¿½s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

licensure and Certification:
ï¿½South Carolina Paramedic certification
ï¿½Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) certification within one year of employment
ï¿½Critical Care Paramedic Certification (CCP-C) ï¿½ with the ability to obtain instructor status
ï¿½Community Paramedic Certification (CP-C) ï¿½ with the ability to obtain instructor status
ï¿½BCLS- with the ability to obtain instructor status
ï¿½ACLS- with the ability to obtain instructor status
ï¿½PALS- with the ability to obtain instructor status
ï¿½AMLS, PHTLS and EPC or PEPP within 2 years preferredï¿½ with the ability to obtain instructor status
ï¿½Training in Hazardous Materials and Radiological monitoring preferred
ï¿½NIMS compliant with Incident Command/Incident Management in the following

ï¿½Successful completion of the NAEMT EMS Safety Course preferred
ï¿½Valid South Carolina or North Carolina Drivers License
