The clinicalsupervisor is the front-line supervisor responsible for coordinating operationsof the patient care department during their assigned shift. S/he is able tocoordinate care not only for individual patients, but also to lead the caredelivery of multiple patients in the nursing care area in accordance with thepolicies and procedures, standards and standard work that guide the processesof the assigned department. Responsibilities include coordinating, directingand monitoring unit operations with a focus on patient flow, staff scheduling,department budget, and unit supplies for the assigned shift. As a front-linenurse leader, s/he is accountable for participation in the evaluation process,and participation in the development and retention of department staff(licensed and unlicensed). Responsibilities include the assessment, planning,implementing and evaluation of processes of the department to ensure consistenthigh quality, cost effective, patient-centered care. The success of thedepartment is inherent in the incumbent's ability to demonstrate positive,professional communication with patients, families, physician's departmentaland interdepartmental staff to optimize workflow and to facilitate problemidentification and resolution. The Clinical Supervisor collaborates with otherprofessional disciplines/unit leaders to ensure the safe and effective deliveryof patient-centered care and the achievement of desired patient safetyoutcomes.
