The Manager, Learning & Development helps set the direction for the L&D team to enhance organizational performance by leading learning and development initiatives throughout Vail Health. The role is a “working manager,” providing coaching, guidance and supervision to the L&D Specialists as well as designing and delivering L&D curriculum and programs. This role coordinates all L&D activities internally and with third-party training providers, and also partners with executives, clinical educators/preceptors, department leaders, other members of the L&D department, and HR colleagues to deliver organization-wide L&D programs.
Conducts annual needs assessment throughout the organization to identify specific learning and development needs and requirements for the overall organization as well as various departments.
Oversees Learning & Development specialists, providing direction in alignment with organizational initiatives.
Develops and implements a learning strategy and programs that are aligned with the organization’s objectives via various types of training delivery methodologies most affective for adult learning.
Designs and produces training materials, including e-learning courses.
Assesses the success of the development plans and modifies where necessary.
Manages, develops and motivates a team of L&D Specialists.
Trains and coaches managers and others involved in their employees’ development.
Manages the e-learning/LMS system.
Coordinates the development programs for all HR team members.
Acts as the principal point of contact for anyone with questions about training and development.
Tracks budgets, negotiates contracts, builds and maintains relationships with third-party training providers.
Remains abreast of the latest developments in learning trends, changes in learning theory, and developments in learning technologies.
Remains abreast of regulatory and compliance mandates.
Role models the principles of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.
Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.
7 years’ experience in progressive L&D roles including live delivery (in-person and virtual), e-learning, curriculum and materials design, and measuring success of L&D programs.
3 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity of L&D Specialists or similar training positions preferred.
Ability to design and implement effective training and development programs.
Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
Strong interpersonal skills and organizational agility.
Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with and present to all levels.
Strong skills in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint; e-learning and LMS platforms.
Strong project management skills.
Strong business acumen.
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
L&D experience in a health care system or hospital; experience with Joint Commission standards.
