The Health Technician is assigned to the Acute Hospital Services Service Line and is responsible for patient related activities which include, medical record management, scheduling of all patients to various clinics, appointments and/or tests, information activities, routing control and other related services for patients. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Collaborates with clinical staff in the administration and coordination of ward activities. Obtains information to complete and maintain medical records for the unit. Provides guidance and direction on hospital policies and procedures to patients, families, visitors and consulting staff. Serves as the front line administrative staff member of the treatment team coordinating customer needs with other administrative and clinical staff activities. Monitors and records patients vital signs. Maintains a clean and comfortable environment for patients. Maintains an abundant stock of forms and supplies appropriate to manage assigned areas and perform duties in a timely manner. Provides patient education material and other relevant information to patients and their families. Assists Physician and other clinical staff with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Assists patients with rehabilitation such as range of motion, ambulating, positioning and self-help activities for daily living. Assembles equipment for oxygen therapy. Provides patient flow/processing information as requested. Monitors patients closely for unusual signs of emotional behavior. Provides intensive personal care to patients that require close monitoring of vital signs during critical stages of illness and/or treatment. Applies external urinary devices, safety devices and other supportive devices as indicated or prescribed. Ensures that specimens obtained by Physician are accurately labeled and transported to the lab in a timely manner. Ensures patient health information is secured and protected from unauthorized disclosure at all times. Practices good communication skills with patient clientele and their families. Ensures reusable instruments are pre-cleaned and escorted to dirty utility room. Ensures exam rooms are stocked with adequate supplies in order to perform assigned duties in an efficient manner. Observe and carry out safety measures which include hand washing techniques and other precautions to prevent and control infection. Uses and care for equipment such as various types of examination tables, stretchers, scales, and wheelchairs.
