The Burn Outreach Coordinator will establish and maintain a disease specific network with community and outlying hospitals, particularly focusing on VUMC Affiliate Hospitals. Assures TJC disease specific certification or other accreditation body requirements are met and collaborates with Accreditation and Standards Department to maintain certification as a designated center. Assures that patients presenting to VUMC with acute disease receive timely and optimal care, using organizationally established, evidenced based national guidelines and standards. Assures disease specific education is completed for all patients and follow up care of all patients is scheduled. Coordinates collection of outcomes data for the specified population. Serves as the point of contact for the designated population upon their discharge from inpatient care. Works with corresponding Patient Care Center leadership to meet goals.
Serves as liaison between VUMC Burn and all external facilities and EMS agencies by establishing and maintaining relationships
Assists in developing departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization.
Coordinates burn education to improve pre-transfer management of critical patients in conjunction with the Burn Manager and Educator.
Analyzes burn referral data from referral facilities and EMS agencies in an effort to increase market share
Fosters relationships with Physician Relations and Burn Outreach Managers/Education Coordinators to coordinate outreach efforts, education and follow-up are scheduled and completed seamlessly
Attends and sponsors industry conferences, submits speaker presentation proposals to conference organizers
Collaborates with Burn Program Coordinator on budget for outreach, sponsorships, memberships, travel, and branded items
Manages Burn community events and prevention education
Conducts needs assessment with referring facilities to determine gaps in training and education
The Vanderbilt Burn Center offers world-class care to burn patients of all ages. Our team is committed to the burn population by providing both physical and emotional support for patients and their families from the acute phase of care through discharge and beyond. Our team of staff members are welcoming, fun, team oriented, and committed to the care provided to our patients. The Burn Center is a 23 bed unit: 8 beds are dedicated to intensive care. The remaining 15 are used for either acute care or intensive care. Our unit specializes in caring for a diverse patient population with complex issues in a designated Level 1 burn center that cares for patients from over a 600 mile radius. A few of the procedures a nurse may perform during a typical shift include IV insertion, drawing blood, in and out catheterization, hydrotherapy (wound care), assisting with chest tube, central line, and arterial line placement, using rotoprone beds, and performing CRRT
