Medical instrument Technician (MIT) functions as a member of the GI/ENDO multidisciplinary team and assist the RN in the care of patients in acute, sub-acute, or chronic states of illness. The incumbent serves under the supervision of a Licensed Registered Nurse in the Gastroenterology Department. Medical Instrument Technician (MIT) functions as a member of the GI/ENDO multidisciplinary team and assist the RN in the care of patients in acute, sub-acute, or chronic states of illness. The GI MIT delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies. The Gastroenterology MIT at this level assists the practitioner in endoscopic procedures, such as but not limited to Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), Colonoscopy, and Endoscopic Ultrasound and other necessary endoscopic procedures. The GI technician maintains a high level of knowledge regarding endoscopic instruments, patient monitoring equipment, patient positioning and comfort, and proper handling of anatomical lab specimens. The incumbent is also responsible for reprocessing of endoscopes, room setup and turnover, and assist with pre and post-procedure care. Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) and lifting devices and operates patient care equipment according to standards and reports unsafe conditions/equipment. Maintains patient confidentiality. The GI technician works closely with staff to develop the specialized skills required for specific Medical Instrument Technician specialty area. Work Schedule: Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00-3:30; 7:30- 4:00pm; or 8:00-4:30; TOD to be determined upon hire and based on the needs of the organization. This position does require on call.
