This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Home-Based Primary Care as well as Telehealth nursing care. Duties include, but are not limited to: The individual practices as an Executive Career Field (ECF) Level IV RN under direct supervision of the Deputy, Nurse Executive and second line supervision to the Associate Director, Patient Care/Nursing Service. The Chief Nurse provides executive nursing leadership and direct supervision for Nurse Managers and secondary supervision to nursing and administrative support staff assigned and as delineated in this functional statement and organizational chart. Collaborates with the Mental Health Service Chief, Domiciliary Chief and inter-professional team, designs and implements interdisciplinary programs, strategic planning, organizational assessment, and continuous process improvements within the service and medical center. Acts as the catalyst for inter-professional collaboration for achievement of service and organizational goals. Functions as an administrator, educator, and consultant utilizing management theory in collaboration with Patient Care and other inter-professional services. Must establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relate effectively with customers, families, and the community as well as, program and service leaders at the local, VHA and network levels. Champions a culture of safety with the goal of zero harm and a high reliability organization. Develops standard operating procedures and policies and ensures processes are in place to evaluate effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance. Maintains knowledge of current practice and supporting technology to advance the practice of nursing and patient-centered care. Responsible for planning and conducting investigations of complex adverse/critical events utilizing the Just Culture algorithm incorporating the results into action plans and reports through close out of actions and goals sustained. Responsible for recruitment of nursing service staff, meeting timely recruitment to onboarding. Ensures staff competency and training required for assigned work areas for each nursing employee in new employee orientation, annually and ongoing as indicated. Key relationships with staff are needed to (1) Assist nurse managers and advanced practitioners to carry out the functions and activities expected of them, (2) Contribute ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing organization-wide, (3) Assist in policy-making activities as related to customer service and the overall functioning of administrative and clinical programs, and (4) Collaborate with other health care partners to establish and maintain programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care.
