The Iowa City VA Health Care System (ICVAHCS) is currently recruiting for one (1) Full-Time Registered Nurse-Perioperative Float located in Iowa City. The Iowa City VA Health Care System is in Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 23. The Perioperative Float Registered Nurse falls under the clinical pathway, as a direct care nurse, and reports to the Clinical Manager, Surgical Specialty Service Line. The Perioperative Float RN plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates nursing care for patients that are undergoing operative or invasive procedure, ensuring seamless transitions from the outpatient setting, recovery, and through discharge or admission.Duties include but are not limited to: Plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates nursing care for patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised after operative or invasive procedures. Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to plan care that meets the patient's needs Has technical knowledge and clinical skills to function during the preadmission phase (pre-operative clinic) that includes patient assessment and development of plan of care. On day of surgery/procedure, the nurse completes assessment and validation of existing information and completion of the preparation of the patient for the planned procedure. Delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care for all adult and geriatric populations during the pre-operative/procedural time, Phase I and Phase II recovery until admission or outpatient discharge. During the post-operative/procedure Phase I and II, the nurse has technical knowledge and clinical skills to function as a peri-anesthesia nurse, which encompasses the care of the patient in the immediate post-anesthesia period where basic life-sustaining needs are the highest priority. Assures the patient is physically and mentally prepared for admission or discharge through assessment and evaluation, and by providing appropriate education to the patient and the responsible caregiver.
